Sport and academic event recaps

The last week has been packed full of activities! Check out this recap about several of the events below. Check back throughout the week for more updates!

Golf

This season, there are have been 12 top five individual placers. There’s been four team championships so far and the JV squad brought home a 2nd place finish at their home tournament on Wednesday.

Football

Varsity football took on St. Marys and won 43-16 last Friday. The JV football team is 2-1 for the season, after their recent game against St. Marys. The junior high football team is currently 3-1, after their last game against Wabaunsee. 

Cross Country

The cross country team had three top five finishers at the Hiawatha meet last week. Both the girls and boys teams have also placed in the top five teams once this season. Last week, sophomore Tessa Gerber took first place at the Hiawatha meet. On the junior high side, there’s been seven top five finishers this season and the boys team have placed in the top five every meet. 

Volleyball

The varsity volleyball team recently won the Rossville Tournament and have home games coming up next Tuesday. Currently, the varsity team is 13-5. JV is 15-2 and won the Perry-Lecompton tournament. The C-Team is 9-5. For the junior high teams, 8A is 2-1, 8B is 1-4.

Debate

The debate team traveled to Washburn Rural last week for their first tournament of the year. Juniors Drake Sexton and Allie Sexton led the groups by placing 15th out of 52 teams. On the open side, Tessa Geber and Olivia Ray went 3-3. Sarah Smith and Jacie Leho went 1-5. On the novice side, Tye Webb and Eli Webb went 2-3. Parker Spielman and Kaiden Thomas went 0-5.
F.F.A.

F.F.A hosted the annual Greenhand Conference last Wednesday, with over 400 students in attendance. During the conference, students heard from their state officer and district officers ran seven stations to teach students about the different parts of FFA. Opening and closing ceremonys bookended the event.
