Welcome to the Silver Lake Junior High Science News Page!
Here are some updates and important reminders of upcoming events.
It has been a great school year so far! We have finished up the Fall semester and are now ready for Winter Break.
Student reminder: there is an online version of our WorkText. It is very handy in case you forget your WorkText at school. To access it: log on to your Pearson Interactive Science account, from the “Dot Page” click on the red dot, your eText is found on the right side of the screen.
Science 7th and 8th
We have successfully completed our Life on Mars STEM Design Challenge! The students were challenged to design and build a base that would allow humans to live on Mars. The students worked in teams to design and construct their Mars base models. Due to the snow day, our voting took place over two days. It was a tough competition. The title of Mars Base STEM Design Challenge Champions goes to the 8th graders. The Champions received a candy box, extra credit, bragging rights, and a spot on our STEM Challenge Champions Wall of Fame.
The Life on Mars STEM Design Champions are Jersey, Avery, & Raely. Their design and model was impressive. They were able to solve 8 of the main design contraints necessary for humans to live on Mars! Great job ladies!
Next up for us in JH Science:
7th Grade will continue to explore the Ecology & the Environment module with Resources and Living Things.
8th Grade will continue the Earth’s Surface module with a trip through the Geologic Time.
Jan. 6th Spring Semester begins
